Nepal Development Marketplace

Timeline and Key Steps

Nepal Development Marketplace 2005 is guided by the values of inclusiveness, diversity, fairness, and transparency. The overall process is described below.

November 1 - December 31, 2004
Call for Proposals

Proposals may be written in Nepali or English as long as the text will not exceed 2 (two) pages maximum. Proposals beyond 2 (two) pages will be rejected. Full proposals and exhibit presentations may be in Nepali or English. The proposal format will be made available through the Public Information Center of the World Bank, District Development Committee Offices, Municipality Offices and Regional Offices of Kantipur Publications.

January 01, 2005 - March 03, 2005
Review of proposals

All proposals will first be screened for straightforward compliance with the eligibility criteria such as proposals reflecting the theme of Delivering Basic Services In Conflict Affected Areas, prescribed format, Length and proponent information by technical assistants from the World Bank Country Office. Proposals, which pass the initial screening, will be passed on to the Technical Assessors and will be evaluated based on assessment criteria.

March 22, 2005
Announcement of Finalists

The assessment team will draw up a list of finalists (the proposals with the highest scores) in an evaluation workshop selecting roughly 40 finalists. The background of the proponent finalists will then be verified.

March 23 - April 22, 2005
Finalists Submit Detailed Proposals

The finalists will be requested to submit detailed project proposals. Proposal formats will be made available through the Public Information Center of the World Bank, District Development Committee Offices, Municipality Offices and Regional Offices of Kantipur Publications.

May 05, 2005
National Competition and Selection of Winners

All finalists will be requested to make presentations to the public and to the Board of Jurors through the Exhibit/Knowledge Forum. A common format, guide questions and templates for the session will be prepared. This will be the last phase of the jury process. The forum will also be an opportunity for networking and exchange of ideas on the theme. Each finalist will be given a booth where they can present their innovations and talk to interested parties.

The Board of Jurors comprised of leading individuals in development will evaluate and deliberate on the winning proposals based on the assessment criteria. The Board will then announce their decision at the end of the event.
