What is the Nepal Development Marketplace ?

Development Marketplace is a funding program that promotes innovative development beyond established channels through an open, transparent competition with minimum cost and bureaucracy. The DM goal is to create a marketplace of ideas, talent and resources that addresse the challenges of economic growth and poverty alleviation. Development Marketplace is a program about finding solutions.


In an effort to promote fresh thinking and new ideas about the delivery of basic services in rural, conflict affected areas, theWorld Bank, in partnership with the Nepal Poverty Alleviation Fund and a number of other benefactors, will sponsor a Development Marketplace in Nepal in May 2005.

The purpose of the program is twofold: (a) to generate fresh thinking and to test new ways of delivering basic services in Nepal's conflict affected areas; and (b) to promote a culture of partnerships in the provision of basic services.
